On Wednesday 26 November, Starbucks Coffee Company announced that by the end of 2009, all of its espresso coffee drinks in the UK and Ireland will be both Fairtrade certified and sourced to their own Shared Planet quality and sustainability criteria. London recently joined almost 400 Fairtrade Towns, Cities, Villages, Counties and Islands in the UK, including our other capitals Edinburgh, Cardiff and Belfast in becoming a Fairtrade City! The event was marked by celebration across the city and an evening reception in City Hall. Read more on the Fairtrade London website. Other Fairtrade Citys include Copenhagen, Dublin, Malmo - Sweden and Leuven - Belgium

On Wednesday 8th October Jim Curtis IWFF Coordinator gave a talk to members of the Media Branch of the National Women Register. He spoke about the History and progress of the National Campaign and how it affects producers Internationally.The development of new products in the UK.The affect of the way Fairtrade principals are now being taken up in international commerce

Divine responds to Unfair Trade report The ‘Unfair Trade’ report from the Adam Smith Institute (ASI), this week, marked the start of Fairtrade Fortnight by claiming there are a number of ‘inconvenient truths’ about the Fairtrade certification scheme.

The Fairtrade Foundation refutes the unsubstantiated claims that Fairtrade does “more harm than good” in the Adam Smith Institute report, published to coincide with Fairtrade Fortnight
